Virtual Private Servers

Overview

Virtual Private Servers clients get a share of a physical server for a number of hardware resources they’ve paid for, and multiple clients often share one physical host machine. From the client’s perspective a VPS barely differs from a dedicated server with a comparable low to mid-range configuration, but thanks to the virtualization layer, the service provider can maintain a uniform range of host hardware while offering multiple different virtual server configurations, which then, in turn, translates to a wider range of server options and lower prices than with dedicated servers.

Purpose

A virtual server is a server that shares hardware and software resources with other operating systems (OS), versus dedicated servers. Because they are cost-effective and provide faster resource control, virtual servers are popular in Web hosting environment

How it Works

A VPS is basically a server running within a server. One physical server hosts multiple virtual servers, each isolated from the others. This is accomplished with software, called a hypervisor, that segments the physical server and keeps each segment separate from the rest. ... Each VPS can also be rebooted independently.

Technology

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) uses virtualization software to partition physical servers into multiple "virtual" servers—each having the ability to run its own operating system and applications.

Virtualization is the process of creating a software-based, or virtual, representation of something, such as virtual applications, servers, storage and networks. It is the single most effective way to reduce IT expenses while boosting efficiency and agility for all size businesses.

A Absolutely anything you like, provided it is legal. VPS are suitable to be used as webservers, games servers, FTP servers, mail servers, database servers.

Q What is the benefit of having more virtual CPUs?

A Increasing your number of virtual CPUs will allow you to parallelise processes so that they may complete more rapidly. Each virtual CPU is assigned to a physical core on the VPS host machine.

Q Is there any contract?

A We use the latest generation of Dell PowerEdge r7xx series servers, optimised for virtualisation, to provide a stable platform. Each physical server has 8 x 10k SAS disks for primary storage, in a RAID-10 array, to provide full storage redundancy and high-speed access to data, and a top-end PERC RAID card with battery-backed cache to ensure the integrity of your data and no storage bottlenecks. We use flash memory for the boot volume, to ensure fast booting and to minimize downtime during upgrades. Each physical server has 12 Intel Xeon cores, designed for heavy server workloads, and 144GB of RAM to accommodate the present and future memory needs of each virtual server.

Q How many IPs do I get?

A Each VPS comes with one free IP address. Additional IPs can be ordered.

Q How long will an upgrade take?

A Upgrades occur immediately. If your disk is being upgraded, a reboot will be necessary.
